OK, California Fall Foliage display, especially those in Eastern Sierra area, is around the corner. Unfortunately, many people do not have a whole week to shoot around the Eastern Sierra area. All they have is probably a weekend. What can you do with only two days? Here is a plan for a weekend fall foliage event:
1. Pack things on Thur. night.
2. Still go to work on Friday but take off early in the afternoon and head for Bishop.
3. It takes about 5 hours to drive from Los Angeles to Bishop, so I will arrive at around 10 pm. Check in hotel and sleep.
4. Get up 5 am on Sat., go straight to North Lake to shoot sunrise. Should be able to get there in 30 min.
5. Explore South Lake, Lake Sabrina and other nearby spots in the morning.
6. At noon or so, drive back to Bishop to get some thing to eat and head for June Lake area. It will take 1 hour and 30 min or so to get there.
7. Spend a couple of hours in June Lake, Silver Lake and Grand Lake.
8. Before too late, go to Mono Lake South Tufa to shoot sunset. From Grant Lake to Mono Lake South Tufa takes only 20 min.
9. After sunset, head for Lee Vining to check into hotel and eat. It is also a 20-min drive from Mono Lake.
Get up at 5 am again on Sun and go to Lundy Canyon, (which is about 20 min away). Spend the morning in Lundy Canyon.
10. At about 10 am, start heading back to LA, stop by Convict Lake if time permits.
11. Arrive in LA by 10 pm.
There are a lot more to see in Eastern Sierra, so if you have more time, plan to shoot more areas. Check this Eastern Sierra Map for more info:
